Positech’s Cameroon School #2 photo update

As you might know from previous blog posts, in partnership with the charity ‘Building schools for Africa‘. we have funded the construction of two schools in Cameroon. The first one was completed ages ago, and the new one should be opened real soon. Here are some new pictures:

To recap earlier posts: ” The project is just the three classrooms, an office, a latrine with hand washing facilities, 27 benches to seat 54-81 children (depending on their age and size!) and 3 tables and chairs for the teachers, tools and seeds for the school garden, project management and monitoring costs. ” Cost to us: about £24,000.

School #2 construction finished!

They need to clear away building materials by the looks of it, and do some painting and other bits, but the structure of our second school is now complete. Image quality not great because rainy season in Cameroon is not ideal for high end HD photos :D.

More details on the school here:

Here are the photos!

Positech school #2 Cameroon update

We just got sent new pics of the start of foundations for the second school we are building in Cameroon. the site is actually different to the one that was originally started, because all sorts of internal problems in the country meant that our funds had to be redirected to a different part of the country. (There is some political unrest in Cameroon).

The location is described as:

“Ecole Catholique St Barthelemy de Djeugo is located in Bahouan village, in Bamendjou Subdivision, Haut Plateau Division of the West Region of Cameroon. It is approximately 3km from the Centre of Bahouan on un-tarred but motor able roads.”

Which looks like its about here:

Anyway, the good news is that things are back on track, and we have pics to prove it :D

We donated another £9,416.88 to war child. Yay!

For the last few years Positech has done this thing where we basically take all of the money we earn from steam sales of Democracy 3 or any of its DLC during the War Child Armistice, and give all of that money to them. We just got our royalty reports and crunched the numbers, and this year that sum is £9,416.88, which I think is pretty good.

Basically if you bought democracy 3 or its DLC from the 6th-13th November this year, we gave all the money (well, our cut of it) to charity. This is the third time we have done this. The first time (which was the original armistice event), it was £15k, last year it was £10.1k, so its going down a bit, but on the other hand, we have contributed about £35k now, which isn’t at all shabby. To put all this into perspective,.. Positech is basically one full time employee (me!) and some contractors, although Jeff (D3:Africa,D4) is pretty much full time now). Imagine how awesome it would be if we could persuade some really big profitable games companies to do the same thing?

If you are wondering what on earth war child is, you can read all about what they do on their website here.

And if you are somehow here not knowing what Democracy 3 is, its a game we made about politics and elections and running the government, and we have a website about it here.

I just got an update from our charity partner ‘Building Schools For Africa’ which includes some awesome photos showing the construction of the second school in Cameroon. It looks like they have hit a pause whilst certain foundation things settle before finishing off the rest of it. Enjoy these pics :D (Crap photo quality and layout due to fairly shaky source material and pdf form…)

No real game news to speak of as I literally got off a plane a few hours ago. Life will return to its usual pace tomorrow.
