Modding for computer illiterate people; like me.

I'd love to be able to know how to build a character from scratch to add to the game or to add extra things or just to modify certain things in the game without feeling like I'm going to ruin the game completely & enough that I'm gonna have to uninstall & reinstall it again.

Can anyone post an example so damned simple it's for 3yr olds on how to build & add to the game a new avatar?
