I know I've been quiet. I've been working like crazy, just on stuff that doesn't have much to say about it, so here is a new screenshot...

the only thing i feel is wrong with that is that its just a wee bit too transparent... the simple adding of a exstream obvious white line to wall of the menus to either side of the screen would give the menu area more cohesion. in my opinion. or just a slight background that was translucent would be good as well

my reasons behind this:

for we when there is not a solid division of items and more just a suggestion of a border (work with me i don't know how to explain this that well) the menu sort of falls into anarchy and its hard to focus on a specific part of it

also if you had the time you could make the lines on the outer edges of the big circlet at either corno on top represent the sides fleet tonnage just to make that much cooler, but as it stands it's good

Indeed, some good points there. In the meantime here is today's dreadnought...

i feel as though i'm looking at a ship that the nomads would make, intriguing

oh and i remembered, question how far can you zoom out? in the battle phase that is. in GSB1 i always found it somewhat annoying i couldn't zoom out very far. if thats not already planned i guess you can consider this a request.

You can disable the minimum zoom function in GSB 1 so you can zoom out and view the entire battlescape.

I'm probably going to make the zoom out bigger anyway this time because otherwise on small monitors the dreadnoughts will just be stupidly big :D

I think cliff just has every Graphical Option turned on to MAX
In the Options Menu in GSB II there is an option to completely disable the JJ Abrams Effect

im still confused, in fact i don't think i understand how depth of field works in an environment like this.
anyway i don't need to know, incase anyone wanted to explain it to me.

I thought that Michael Bay was the guy for expulsions AND lens flares.

I think you mean, "J.J. Abrams" mode for lens flares. "Michael Bay" mode would make all of the sound effects identical to Transformers 1 and would make all of the ships look like identical piles of parts!

(Okay, that was slightly opinionated... bad, Maethius!)

Seriously, I do really like the idea of being able to adjust the amount of bloom, light sourcing, and background effects at will. I would probably not bother with the flares from the sun unless it was very close the center of the screen, however... it just seems odd to have them crossing the entire battlefield all the time.

I like these ships a lot. The main-body saucer puts me slightly in mind of original Star Trek ships, but they still have a completely separate aesthetic as well.
