Ok, I'm sure I'm being stupid here but I don't understand what you folks are talking about. What is an "air battle"? Aren't all of our Gratuitous Battles in space? What does a stationary cruiser have to do with it? There is a terminology thing going on here that I'm not familiar with.

By "air battle", they mean that you have to deal with the fighters. :)

If both fleets just rush at eachother, you can win by wiping out the other cruisers/frigates and ignore the fighters. If there's a cruiser hanging back that you can't get to right away, your fleet either flies all the way across the map taking fire from the enemy fighters, or you have to actively deal with the fighters some how before they paper cut your cruisers to death.

Yeah, it's basically a stereotypical reference to WW II naval warfare. The units actually have real life equivalents. Cruisers are large warships. Frigate are smaller warships (which, ironically is a reference to a type of bird).

Well STW, two can play the game ;)

5-9 posted, one of the hardest SAC I've ever done. Now that the last fleet with any anti-missile has been pushed off the queue, I expect a good missile spam to dominate. BUT STW is banned from posting the next one, give someone else a chance :P

12 is up now (4613610) - beats previous 3 - have not tried on earlier ones yet.
This is so much fun. much better than trying random challenges online.

It sure is. Though if this is your first time, you might want to try your fleet vs the earlier fleets. It will give you a feel of how SAC evolves over time.

I have noticed in my SAC 5-12 than 6 of my fighter groups did not have "cautios" enabled.
can I post an updated one and delete the original?

I was able to beat 13 from first attempt by adding 1 LC. but then it failed to beat my SCA-5-12!

Yeah, just glancing at them, it looks pretty disappointing.

There's only a few ways to root out walls of slug cruisers like that:

Missiles: Scramblers make this untenable.
Fighters: Too much meat for them to burn through while flying through a tractor farm.
Plasma: Oh boy, let's dedicate the entire fleet to a low DPS weapon. Virtual autowin for your opponent if he's tribe.

There aren't too many good answers outside of outright AI trickery.
