Modding cabinet members etc

Postby Zerorott » Wed May 27, 2009 8:19 pm

Hi, I've never modded before but this game has really tempted me too. I want to mod my own socialist utopia eventually, but I thought I'd start small. Is there any way at all to mod the cabinet members, names, sympathies etc etc. I would really really appreciate any help at all, with anything in regards to modding. thanks in advance

You can't really do that, no. The sympathies are random, so you can't mod those. The pictures - I suppose you could overwrite the pictures in the \Program Files\Democracy2\data\bitmaps\ministers\ folders with your own pictures, although I haven't tried it. The names you can change, sort of. Democracy 2 generates random names for the ministers by choosing a first name and a last name from the file \Program Files\Democracy2\data\simulation\names.txt. You could change the names in this file. Also, it is possible for missions (countries) within the game to have their own set of names, unique to that country. You create a text file in the same format as the "names.txt" file in the \Program Files\Democracy2\data\simulation\ directory (see the spanish_names.txt file in that directory for an example), and give it a unique name. You then insert the line:

Code: Select all

names = "data/simulation/spanish_names.txt"

into the mission file for the country you want those names to apply to (in \Program Files\Democracy2\data\missions or in the My Documents sub-folder if they are downloaded scenarios), but replacing "spanish_names.txt" with whatever you have called your text file, eg. "german_names.txt".

Hope this helps.

If you want to edit an individual game you can edit your savegames located under "My Documents\democracy2\savegames". It's all XML so you can open it with notepad. In each savegame you can change just about everything... including your own custom cabinet!
