A theory [problem solving weapon, suggestion]

How do you think this game would change if there was a weapon with the following characteristics. The dematerializer. Range: extreme. (3000-5000) RoF: 200 Tracking speed: 0.05 (essentially, can't hit moving targets) Damage: 2^(number of previous hits). So it does nothing at first but after four or f...

Re: Merge Engines and Powerplants

If what you suggest is, for example: Engine A: Power 1, Thrust 1, cost X Engine B: Power 1, Thrust 2, cost 2x Engine C: Power 1, Thrust 3, cost 3x Engine D: Power 3, Thrust 1, cost 3x Engine E: Power 3, Thrust 2, cost 4x Engine F: Power 3, Thrust 3, cost 5x Thus allowing you to keep all the design p...

Re: Merge Engines and Powerplants

I don't agree with this. Right now, you can have two balanced ships with the same engines and a large difference in power. You'd lose that differentiation What if I want a ship with missiles and armor? What do I do with all that power? I can't use it on more engines, as they'd give me even more powe...

Re: New Requirement: Engines?

The problem with letting even a single ship without engines is that both players could have one and those ships would probably be hard to kill (essentially free superheavy armor) so they could be the only ones left at the end, leading to an ugly draw.

Re: Grand Challenge Quest rules discussion

I agree with the "No ship without an engine" rule, to avoid stalemates and/or giving an advantage to the first unmoving fleet.

I'll add it.

Re: Grand Challenge Quest I

Sorry for the delay. I'm in a short trip work trip to France. Indeed I'll have to add the requirement for all ships in the fleets to move, to avoid giving an advantage to the first posting of such a fleet. I don't know what was changed in the last version, so let's continue unless someone finds a th...

Re: Grand Challenge Quest I

Tested. It does beat all previous Grand Challenges and two of them with crushing superiority.

First page updated.

I've added to the rules, Supraluminal's nice idea of giving the challenge an easy name.

Indeed. I didn't know there was a challenges and tournaments forum. :)

I'll create it there.

Re: Grand Challenge Quest rules discussion

I've created the first Grand Challenge Quest.

I've also updated the first post, to reflect some things I've seen while choosing the challenges.

Re: Grand Challenge Quest rules discussion

I'll have to investigate the part about positioning. I'm not sure of the effect it may have.

Anyway, if the first try becomes unbeatable at 4 or 5, we can review the rules to correct such artifacts.

Re: Grand Challenge Quest rules discussion

Well, I've learned to value both your opinions so it's enough for me. Tonight (in a couple hours) I'll try to find three reasonably hard and different builds and I'll make a thread with the first Grand Challenges. I'll essentially let the challenge votes and the rate of Wins/downloads, guide me. So:...

Re: Escape Key Irritation

I've never clicked escape by mistake, so I didn't even know it discarded changes. However, I agree with the saving of the last deployment whenever exiting the screen. For example, if I make a mistake with a command and see it right upon entering the fight, I'd like everything to stay as I left it, n...

Re: Victory Conditions?

On the other hand it would suck if you had one or two cruisers left, badly damaged by fighters under their shields but still largely functional, more than capable of beating what's left of the enemy fleet, but because their health is low, you lose. I agree. A shieldless and with very little armor c...
