Re: Democracy 2 still alive?

There are a bunch of mods out by the user community, but I think most "official" development (by cliffski) is now in the Gratuitous Space Battles games, as well as the one he's currently developing.

Re: Where does a programmer find an artist?

They do unpaid requests? Why? As ponyus said, it may be that it's something to practice their skills on. I've done a few GIMP scripts to automate some of the tutorials I've seen because they looked neat and I can certainly use the practice in the script-fu language!! It might also be something very...

Re: Where does a programmer find an artist?

It also depends on what type of artist you are looking for. The Cartographer's Guild has some excellent artists that will do maps for just about any genre you can think of; from a single building all the way up to a galaxy. You can put up a paid or unpaid request, give some details for what you're l...

Re: Why not develop for Linux too?

[quote="galactus2099"]I haven't seen a computer that uses Linux in quite some time. What percentage of computers use Linux as their OS? I think the reason why they don't develop any games for Linux if because there isn't enough computers out there to have good sales on that platform. I'm s...

Re: Support needed

What are the messages that show up? It sounds like you may have multiple issues with your install (Windows or Mac?) if you get multiple crash to desktop errors.

Re: Spirited Heart

I agree that the morale shouldn't influence the rolls, only the skill. I still want to keep "bad rolls" though (where you cannot get the perfect score anyway) even at high skill values to simulate what happens also in real life. I mean, even if you're the best in the world at your job, th...

Re: Spirited Heart

sambrookjm: no the dice is random, but your suggestion indeed would make much sense. I am currently busy finishing a RPG, but I think I should implement your suggestion in a update to the game! Glad to help. I always enjoy trying to figure out the mechanics behind the game. A little bit of talent o...

Re: Spirited Heart

I thought it was just me... My characters tried all of the baseline jobs, but the morale hit for doing a poor job was huge. That meant a lot of time wandering around taking weeks off, which meant no $$$ was coming in. It was not a good combination, especially with the sudden 41% tax rate increase! A...

Re: Plant Theme Ships

An Organic tech race with self-healing ships. One of my favorite types of races to play in the Space Empires series.

Sounds like it could be another expansion set. :-)

Re: Hello???. . . *echo*

Just got this game and was having fun with it. Then I found out I could easily mod it. WOW! have I got ideas. Anyway, I have a question as to whether it's possible (by modding the text files) to make new assets that have a chance to prevent mugging/burglary. I've been digging but I can't seem to fi...

Re: Feedback on nebulas

Please think about avoiding too much red or green in the background, as it makes it difficult to see fighters in the red/green mode. Not to mention those who are red/green colour blind, who are I presume, not going to like that feature at all :P I am color blind, so I automatically design with this...

Only 3 URLs per message. I assume it's an anti-spam safeguard?

In any event, here is a jpg of the full nebula (just about 1 MB) from the message above. Again, feel free to use it if you like it, or let me know if you want some other stuff done.

Re: Feedback on nebulas

I've done some work in GIMP for astronomical backgrounds. Nebulas and planets mostly, although I've had a little bit of luck trying out galaxies. One planet I think turned out really well is this one The original one is 2048x2048, and 850K. A nebula that turned out fairly well is right here . I've w...

Re: Tribal Proton Beam Cruiser

To get really existential...what's the point of any post (this one included)?

mrblitz had a ship design that he wanted to share. He got some comments on it. I may try the design to see how it works with respect to some of the other Tribe ships I've done. We're all a little bit better off. Hooray!
