Re: Forgotten modules

I think what happened here is directly related to how fighter/gunship torpedoes USED to be a lot heavier compared to the other two 'shield-breaker' weapons. Someone pointed out, and Cliff agreed, that it made Torpedo Fighters completely unusable because the fastest design you could make could still ...

Re: Is hacking weapons possible?

Just played that challenge, and the following weapons worked fine on my fleet:
Pulse Cannon
Sledgehammer Pulse Cannon
Nuclear Pulse Laser

Sable Phoenix, are you sure it wasn't just a transient glitch on your end?

Re: [Balance debate] Cruiser shields.

First post; thought I could add some abstract perspective. I would suggest that even if the light shields present better efficiency (strength and resistance vs cost, power, weight, crew, etc...) than the heavy shields people would still pick the heavy shields. They would pick the heavy shields beca...

Re: Is hacking weapons possible?

If I was gonna hack a weapon so it didn't fire, I'd definitely do it to a pulse cannon. X)

Re: [Balance debate] Cruiser shields.

Hmm, I think you're reaching the wrong conclusions here, Cliff. It's not that the Cruiser Heavy Shield is "too good"; it is in fact the very best of the currently available shield modules. Nerfing that particular module, while raising the stats on the other shield modules, might balance th...

Re: [Balance debate] Cruiser shields.

Right, but part of the problem right now is that there exists no niche situation in which someone would say, "Hmm, I don't really need a Heavy Shield on this ship. A light one will still provide me adequate protection, at reduced cost." That situation doesn't exist because there are no alt...

Re: [Balance debate] Cruiser shields.

Those improve the Light Shield, yeah, but they make it really close to the Medium Shield in terms of utility. That's a good place to start, but as long as shields are the only viable defense, and there are too many weapons that can break through shields, people are gonna keep going with the best shi...

Re: [Balance debate] Cruiser shields.

One of the reasons I never use Light Shields is the stacking penalty. With the way we all thought armor was working, it wasn't a viable defensive option for a ship of any class. That left Shields as the only viable defense option for Cruisers and Dreadnoughts. With a stacking penalty of 0.9, you are...

Re: Help me decide on future development priorities...

The 'reinforced' modules are generally ignored as ship hull strength is always an afterthought. I use the 'reinforced' modules wherever and wherever I can reasonably fit them. Building tough, durable hulls is just how I design ships most of the time. I know this is counter to what some other shipbu...

Re: Help me decide on future development priorities...

I agree with Alekan, that more balancing is needed. As far as #4 on your list goes, you have PLENTY of content in the game now, but 75% of it never gets used because it's underpowered, overpriced, or otherwise unbalanced compared to the small fraction of modules that are "the best". Adding...

Re: What is *ACTUALLY* going on with Armor

Cliff, What's the highest armor value you can get on a Dreadnought with your new adjusted Armor Formula and Stacking modifiers? Find a generic Dreadnought weapon and set the Armor Penetration to the next whole-number factor of 5 above that. (i.e. if you can get a DN with 31.77 armor, set the Particl...

Re: What is *ACTUALLY* going on with Armor

Cliff, a good analogy here is a scientific experiment: If you're trying to determine what effect something has, you change one variable at a time, and run a new experiment. You don't change 15 variables at the same time, and you definitely don't change a bunch of variables that are already deeply in...

Re: What is *ACTUALLY* going on with Armor

Cliff, the problem with Pulse Cannons is that they already do everything . ⋅ They penetrate shields. ⋅ They penetrate any realistic level of armor you can put on a ship. ⋅ The have a high tracking speed, so they can hit ANYTHING, even fighters. ⋅ They have a d...

Re: What is *ACTUALLY* going on with Armor

Cliff under no circumstances do Pulse Cannons, Sledgehammer Pulse Cannons, or any derivative thereof need ANY sort of "boost" right now.
